TMS2026 was held in San Diego, California
April, 2026 – New Wave attended the TMS2026 – Annual Meeting & Exhibition, one of the leading global events focused on the science and engineering of minerals, metals, and materials. The company’s CTO, Luis Bittencourt, attended the conference at the invitation of Hydro, a leading company in aluminum and renewable energy.
This investment strengthens the partnership between the companies, which have an agreement to build a semi-industrial plant at Alunorte, Hydro’s alumina refinery in Barcarena (PA). During the event, as part of the program dedicated to Light Metals, Luis presented the project, highlighting its unique features and objectives.
For Bittencourt, being on the agenda was a strategic opportunity for exchange and learning. “Participating in TMS broadens our perspective on the industry’s key trends and challenges, while also strengthening our dialogue with partners and leading global institutions. It’s an environment that fosters innovation and collaboration, which are fundamental pillars for the growth of our business.”
With over 4,000 participants from various countries, the event brought together engineers, scientists, and industry leaders for a program focused on knowledge sharing, market trends, and the presentation of technological advancements. Throughout the event, topics relevant to the sector’s development were also discussed.
Semi-industrial plant
New Wave is currently setting up its first semi-industrial plant for the recovery of minerals from bauxite waste, in partnership with Alunorte, located in Barcarena (PA). The project represents a crucial step toward enabling the company to move forward with larger projects around the world.
With an initial capacity to process approximately 50,000 tons of bauxite waste per year, it will be the first plant in the world to recover this material while producing low-carbon metallic iron. This initiative is a first of its kind in Brazil, offering a solution for the entire global aluminum production industry.
